Beachcombing

    Walk or stroll along Ocean Shores 6 miles of sand and surf. Enjoy the excitement of finding hidden treasures along the way. The best time to find unusual items is after high tide or after one of our exciting winter storms. A popular site to stop at during your search is at the North Jetty where you will find agates and often times shells or sand dollars. A popular spot locals enjoy is at Damon Point (also known as Protection Island), the perfect place for camp fires.

Bicycling

    The Ocean Shores Peninsula is for the most part flat which is for perfect for bicycling. Ocean Shores has 120 miles of roads more than most large cities with many scenic routes on the bay side. Special bike lanes follow the main artery (Point Brown) from town to the Jetty for your convenience.

Bird Watching

     In Ocean Shores you will find some of the most exciting bird species in the Northwest, perfect for bird watchers. At Damon Point (also known as Protection Island) you can find dozens of species of migratory and residential birdlife, known as a meeting site for the rare Snowy Plover and the southernmost meeting site for the Semi-Palmated Plover. This is the only recorded place in the world where these two species coexist as breeding birds. You may also find Brown Pelicans, Peregrine Falcons, and Heron.

     Bowling is available at the Pacific Beach Resort & Conference Center


Clam Digging

    A most rewarding sport if you don't mind getting your arms a little wet. Enjoy some of the Northwest's finest razor clams. Remember Clam digging is permitted in clam season only (check here for future schedules) and you must obtain a license from Ace Hardware next to the IGA. You may also want to check with the Chamber of Commerce for clamming season and license information.



Ferry to Westport

     The El Matador ferry that transports passengers to or from Ocean Shores-Westport can seat 70 passengers per trip. It takes about 20 to 40 minutes to cross. Regular runs are done through Memorial Day to Labor Day. I suggest that you call before you decide to make the trip. If the tide is to low the ride will be canceled

Fishing

What kind of fishing do you desire? We have Surf Fishing, Fresh Water Fishing, and Crabbing. Take advantage of the Tuna, Halibut, Salmon, and Bottom Fishing Charters that are offered in season. The best area for Surf Fishing is at the North Jetty or Damon Point State Park (also known as Protection Island). If Fresh Water Fishing is what you seek try Duck Lake or one of our many water ways in the Canal. The best place to find fresh crab is near the Marina or again at Damon Point Park. Great Salmon can also be found at the Marina in Season.

    Ocean Shores has one of the best miniature golf course around for your pleasure and enjoyment.

Golfing

    PGA Golf Course??? Yes you heard it correct, Ocean Shores has Washington's only PGA rated championship course on the coast. Complete with an 18 hole course, multiple tees, club cart rentals, and a Pro-Shop with a snack bar. Company tournaments are planned and organized by the resident golf pros. Annual memberships are welcome to locals and visitors. So please enjoy to your hearts content.

Horseback Riding

    A favorite past time for Ocean Shores visitors and locals alike, take an enjoyable ride down the beach or on one of Ocean Shores beautiful nature trails.

Interpretive Center

    You must take the time to enjoy the Ocean Shores Interpretive Center while you are visiting, bring your children and have a wonderful and educational time learning about the history, wildlife, and development of the Ocean Shores peninsula. Only open from Memorial Day through Labor Day, or by special arrangement


North Jetty

    A premier visiting spot in Ocean Shores, ideal for beach combing and surf fishing. If you are a storm watcher, enjoy the view of crashing waves upon the jetty during a winter storm from one of our many warm and cozy rentals


Kite Flying

    One of the most popular and fun activities to do on the beach in Ocean Shores. We have some of the most fascinating kite shops anywhere with a great variety of kites, windsocks, beach toys and much much more. Come and enjoy the Ocean Shores International Kite Challenge, one of Washington's largest kite festivals featuring stunt kite competitions, displays, fun fly's, free kite flying lessons, merchants, beach vendors and more. Library

    Located on Point Brown Ave just a little south of the four way stop in Ocean Shores. Come in and say "Hi" to the local Library Cat Trixie, if you wait too long she will come and introduce herself. The library offers temporary cards for visitors and Internet access (One, one hour session per day). They just had there systems updated through the Gates Foundation and have some really nice computers. Be sure to call and make arrangements for time on the computer well in advance.

Moped Rental

    Another very popular activity on the beaches and on the streets of Ocean Shores, All you need is a drivers license and a helmet and your ready to ride so enjoy. If you do not have a license enjoy renting a bike to cruse around the beach on the can be a whole lot of fun!

Public Parks

    Ocean Shores has many maintained parks for your enjoyment.
Here are some of the parks in Ocean Shores and the local area click on the links to find out more information and make reservations:

Duck Lake and Canals
23 miles of fresh water, navigable, interconnected waterways. Duck Lake is stocked and considered one of the best fishing lakes in Western Washington. Fishing year around and power boat accessible.

Pacific Ocean Beaches
Six miles of Ocean Beaches, approximately 170 acres at high tide. Clamming (while in season), jetty and surf fishing, whale watching, seashell and driftwood collecting. Horse rentals along the beach mostly year round.

Chinook Park
Boat launch, fishing pier on Duck Lake. Special facilities for handicapped.

North Bay Park
On Duck Lake with rest rooms, parking area, public dock, boat ramp, fishing, picnic shelter, baseball field and tennis court.

Emerson Park
Tennis court only minutes from downtown area.

Oyehut Wildlife Area
682 acres of wildlife habitat, wetlands, tide flats and world class bird watching.

Protection Island
1 544 acre natural area extending into the Grays Harbor entrance. Excellent view of shipping lanes, and Westport. Natural area for walking, beach combing, and bird watching. An abundant wildlife habitat.

Ocean City State Park
Located one mile north of Ocean Shores, 187 developed, private, wooded campsites, some with full hookups. Beach access, picnic area near the beach.

Olympic National Park
Home to all three temperate rain forests in North America with the worlds largest spruce tree. Southern entrance (Lake Quinalt) which is 40 miles northeast of Ocean Shores.


Sightseeing

    You will find some of the best site seeing in Ocean Shores on the lakes and canals, in Duck Lake you can find water fowl and otters. If you stop by the north jetty you can see the power of the ocean. Take a ride to Westport with a chance of even seeing a few whales. A drive north along Highway 109 takes you through Ocean City, Copalis Beach, Pacific Beach and Moclips. You will find spectacular beach views along the way. 45 minutes north of Ocean Shores on Highway 101 will take you to Lake Quinalt and the Olympic Rain Forest. Here you will see breathtaking view of the lake you will find fantastic trail and waterfalls not to mention the worlds largest spruce tree.

Surf Fishing

    Surf fishing is good almost everywhere along the coast, but access is best at Ocean City, Roosevelt Beach, Pacific Beach and Moclips.


Surf Kayaking

    Surf kayaking is particularly good at Pacific Beach, with easy access from the State Park day use area.


Tennis

    Visit Emerson Park a tennis only park on Bass Avenue and at North Bay City Park on Albatross. Pacific Park Courts on Ocean Shores Blvd. are available with advance permission from the Ocean Shores Community Club.


Winter Storms

    Storm watching is at its best in winter and near the North Jetty. Try to get a warm and cozy rental with a view. Please be careful during these powerful storms and while in the North Jetty area. This is a time to enjoy visually from a safe distance. 25 foot seas and high winds can be extremely dangerous and will occasional crash over the protection of the jetty wall.
